The Business Council has scheduled its annual Manufacturing Week for May 7-14. This year, the event will focus on one of the top priorities of the manufacturing community, tort reform, said Brian McMahon, director of economic development for The Council and its specialist in manufacturing.

The purpose of Manufacturing Week is to highlight the important role of manufacturing in the state's economy and to highlight the legislative priorities of the state's manufacturers, he said.

Manufacturing Week usually includes a range of events across the state as well as a one-day event in Albany. This year, it will include a lobbying day May 11 at the state Capitol to be held in conjunction with New Yorkers for Civil Justice Reform, a broad coalition of organizations that supports comprehensive tort reform in New York.

This coalition includes large and small businesses, including manufacturers, as well as municipalities, physicians, architects, and other professional groups.

Last year during Manufacturing Week, The Business Council and some individual manufacturing firms were invited to meet with Governor Pataki to discuss specific legislative concerns.
