Governor Pataki said Wednesday that he will unveil amendments to his Executive Budget by Jan. 31 to accelerate budget negotiations and increase the chances of an on-time budget this year.

Each year, the Governor can amend the original Executive Budget for 30 days after it is released. The Governor said he will release his amendments before that deadline.

This year, the Governor proposed his budget Jan. 11, a week earlier than the Jan. 18 deadline.

The amendments were not released Wednesday. They will not materially affect spending levels, said Budget Division spokesman Joseph Conway.

The amendments will include details on how the Governor proposes to phase out the state's gross receipts tax on energy utilities, Conway added.
