The Business Council's Annual Meeting next week will feature a live broadcast of an influential Albany radio program devoted to politics and policy as well as an address by pollster John Zogby.
The Annual Meeting will take place Sept. 22-24 at The Sagamore in Bolton Landing.
Agenda highlights include:
A panel discussion on "New York State's Economic Climate - Now and Into The Next Century" set for 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, will include: William F. Allyn, president, Welch Allyn, Inc.; Stanley J. Grubel, chief executive officer, MiCRUS; Eric Mower, chairman and chief executive officer, Eric Mower and Associates: Heidi A. Nauleau, chairman, The Aarque Companies; and Alair Townsend, publisher, Crain's New York Business. Albany Times-Union columnist Dan Lynch will moderate the discussion.
From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Fred Dicker, capitol bureau chief of the New York Post, will broadcast his radio program on WROW-AM, "The Fred Dicker Show," live from the meeting. (The broadcast can be heard from the World-Wide Web at www.wrow.com.)
In addition, WROW's morning talk-show host, Paul Vandenburg, will also broadcast live from The Sagamore from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., also on Friday, Sept. 24.
Pollster John Zogby will address The Business Council's Government Affairs Council meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, to discuss such issues as the upcoming New York State Senate race, the national economy, prospects for the federal tax-cut package being debated in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and trends in voters' attitudes.
Business Council President Daniel B. Walsh will review legislative activity for the last 12 months at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24.
During an evening meeting Sept. 22, Council members will elect new members to the board of directors, as well as a new chairman, vice chairman, and vice chair for finance. (See story, front page.) The Council will also give the Corning Award for Excellence to Erland E. Kailbourne, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Fleet National Bank.
New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer will speak at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23.
A special black-tie dinner will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 23, in celebration of The Council's 20th Annual Meeting. Festivities will include a performance by satirist Mark Russell.
The Business Council's Annual Meeting each year attracts more than 400 of the top business and government leaders in the state for discussions on issues of importance to the state's business community. The meeting is open to all Business Council members.
Each year at the meeting, The Business Council's board of directors sets The Council's legislative priorities for the coming year, and a wide range of Council members discuss those issues, expected legislative actions on them, and strategies for advocating legislative actions that will strengthen New York's business climate.
