of the nation's oldest and most respected insurers has been
selected to offer dental insurance benefits to Business Council
members.
Effective
July 1, First Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. of New York will
underwrite dental insurance for employers that buy dental
insurance through the Business Council Insurance Fund
Workers'
compensation costs in New York remain a competitive disadvantage
for the state, and any changes to the system should strive
to reduce overall costs, Business Council President Daniel
B. Walsh has told legislative leaders
Health insurers, hospitals, and consumer groups have joined
The Business Council in opposing a bill that would radically
change health insurance in New York, increase health costs,
and raise questions about the quality of health care
New
York's recent investments in high-tech research and development
have been strategically crafted and substantial compared to
other states', Ed Reinfurt, vice president of The Business
Council, told a legislative hearing today
New
York should act in the current legislative session to extend
and improve the law governing how the state sites new electricity-generating
plants, The Council said in legislative testimony this week.
The
Council submitted testimony for the record in a June 5 hearing
sponsored by Assemblyman Paul Tonko (D-Amsterdam), chair of
the Assembly Energy Committees

Business Council is urging lawmakers to extend the state's
successful Power for Jobs program so contracts for reduced-rate
energy that were awarded in the second and third years of
the program do not expire.

members and others to automatically send notes of support
for extending the program from The Business Council's Web

Business Council has urged the state to modify its proposed acid rain control
regulations, saying they would significantly affect the supply and cost of
electric power while offering limited benefits to affected ecosystems.
The Council expressed
these concerns in comments it submitted to the state Department of Environmental
Conservation (DEC) in response to the department's proposed acid deposition
reduction program (ADRP)
After
more than three years of consistent growth, The Business Council's
workers' compensation trust for manufacturers shows no sign
of slowing.
By
May 2002, the trust was reporting some $15 million in annual
