New York's high-tech businesses sell information-technology
products and services to the state.

to concerns that New York State must increase its electricity-generating
capacity.

Governor
George Pataki has signed into law an extension of the state's
successful Power for Jobs program. The extension was a top
legislative priority of The Business Council.
The
legislation will make available 183 megawatts of electricity
in a new "Phase Five" of the program

state board that oversees siting of new power plants has approved
a Business Council-backed proposal to build a new 580-megawatt
electricity-generating plant in Brookhaven, Suffolk County.

a draft policy for incorporating "environmental-justice" concerns

at the State University of New York in Albany, Governor Pataki
announced July 18.
