The Business Council of New York State
November 6, 2008
Commissioners, thank you for holding this hearing on this important subject today, I am Kenneth Adams, president & CEO, of The Business Council of New York State. The Council represents more than 3,000 employers in New York of all sizes
ALBANY— “The New York State Association of Counties' (NYSAC) call for real reductions in spending is a serious bi-partisan recommendation to cut the cost of government in New York and improve our economy,” said Kenneth Adams, president & CEO of The Business Council of New York State.
“To grow our way out of this recession and budget crisis, New York must rein in spending at both the state and local level
ALBANY— A long term hydropower contract between the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Alcoa will retain jobs and secure capital investment, according to The Business Council of New York State.
“The Business Council supports this contract for two key reasons. First, it will result in a $600 million capital investment, at a minimum, in a state of the art manufacturing facility
ALBANY— The 2009 Business Tax Climate Index, which compares corporate, individual, sales, unemployment and property taxes in each state, ranked New York's business tax climate as the 49th in the country--two places below where the foundation ranked New York on its 2008 index.
New York ranked at or near the bottom in four of the five tax categories studied by the Foundation
ALBANY—The Business Council of New York State today announced that Robert Lillpopp has joined the staff as director of member communications. He will be responsible for the Council's membership and marketing communications function.
“Rob's experience in New York state government, media relations, marketing and journalism will be an asset to the Council as we work to promote economic growth, good jobs and strong communities,” said Kenneth Adams, Business Council president and CEO
ALBANY— “The news today from AMD and the Advanced Technology Company of Abu Dhabi that they are joining to create the The Foundry Company and move ahead with construction of a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facility in Saratoga County is welcome news for the Capital Region and New York State,” said Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State
ALBANY— The Business Council of New York State's Board of Directors has elected Kevin Burke, president and CEO of Consolidated Edison, Inc. as chair of the Council's Board for the year ahead.
Burke became chairman, president, and CEO of Consolidated Edison on September 1, 2005. He also serves as chairman and CEO of Consolidated Edison's principal subsidiary, Consolidated Edison Company of New York
ALBANY— “The Business Council of New York State urges negotiators for the President, the Senate and the House of Representatives to keep working on a bi-partisan bill that will stabilize the credit markets so capital can flow to drive our economy forward. Federal action is needed soon.
The lack of a functioning credit market will bring the economy to a halt
ALBANY— “Tough economic times will require the state and private sector to find innovative ways to raise the capital needed to modernize our infrastructure. The Business Council of New York State fully supports Governor Paterson's Executive Order creating a commission on public-private partnerships to do that
ALBANY— “With New York now having the highest taxed county in the nation, in Westchester, and five of the 12 highest taxed counties in the nation, passage of Gov. David Paterson's property tax cap is urgent,” said Kenneth Adams, president & CEO of The Business Council of New York State
