Republican gubernatorial candidate John Faso proposed major reductions
in New York State’s income tax, and Democratic candidate Eliot
Spitzer outlined proposals to reduce workers’ compensation
costs, in remarks at the Business Council’s Annual Meeting
ALBANY—The Business Council’s Board of Directors elected
Linda Sanford of IBM and Kirk Gregg of Corning Incorporated as co-chairs
for the year ahead. The Council has also elected two new directors and
re-elected 8 directors.
Sanford is vice president of enterprise technology on demand at IBM Corporation
and has served as chairman of the Business Council’s Board of Directors
since September 2005
The Business Council’s Board of Directors has elected Linda Sanford
of IBM and Kirk Gregg of Corning Incorporated co-chairs for the year ahead.
The Council has also elected two new directors and re-elected
eight directors.
Sanford is senior vice president, enterprise on demand transformation
at IBM and has served as chairman of the Business Council’s
Board of Directors since September 2005

agenda for growth in New York State.
“We do not want the urgent priorities in Albany to cause
us to lose sight of the very important long-term, multi-year agenda

of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, accepted his new role as president and
CEO of The Business Council and asked members to help make the Council strong
ALBANY—Ken Adams, president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce
since 1995 and a business leader who has emerged as a catalyst helping
chambers across the state work together on economic-development issues,
has been named president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State
Most smaller urbanized areas in New York State improved their standing in a national ranking of regional economic strength, although top rankings remain concentrated in other states.
Of 15 "micropolitan" statistical areas in New York, 13 gained in the 2006 rankings, compared to their position in 2004
Money appropriated by the state Legislature for summer institutes
for math and science, which is being made available through competitive
grants, can help school districts defray staff development costs
associated with participation in Project Lead the Way (PLTW), according
to Marg Mayo, the Council's specialist in education policy and workforce
development issues
ALBANY—State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, the
likely Democratic candidate for Governor, and John Faso,
the Republican nominee for Governor, will speak on issues in the race
for Governor at an 8:30 a.m. session Thursday, Sept. 21,
during The Business Council's Annual Meeting
