Award to be Presented at Annual Meeting in September

ALBANY – The Business Council of New York State announced Tuesday the finalists for the Minority Business Award. 36 businesses were nominated by legislators from across New York State and 11 were selected as finalists. The award was established in February in an effort to highlight minority, women, and LGBTQ businesses and recognize their history and success.

This year’s award is sponsored by National Grid and will be presented at The Business Council’s Annual Meeting in September at The Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing.

“Our goal in launching this award is to recognize the diverse group of businesses committed to driving economic growth across the state,” said Paul Zuber, Executive Vice President of The Business Council of New York State. “It is imperative that all employers have the opportunity to grow their business, regardless of their race, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.”

Nominating legislators included: Assemblymember Taylor Darling, Assemblymember Alicia Hyndman, Assemblymember Karen McMahon, Assemblymember Michaelle Solages, Assemblymember Monica Wallace, and Senator George Borrello, Senator Jeremy Cooney, Senator Robert Jackson, Senator Anthony Palumbo, Senator Kevin Parker, and Senator James Sanders.

The full list of finalists can be found here, on The Business Council’s website.

Earlier this year, The Business Council supported a package of legislative bill proposals that would positively impact MWBE businesses in New York State and recognized five bills as beneficial to minority and women-owned businesses throughout New York. The bills were based on transparency and covid-related assistance since minority-owned businesses were hit hard by the pandemic, resulting in many closures.
