The
Business Council is developing a new initiative designed to
unite New York's business community in an ongoing effort to
sustain public-school education reform in New York.
The
project is called "Engage New York
New York State led the nation in the net number of residents
who moved to other states from 1995 to 2000, the U.S. Census
Bureau
reported.
More
than 1.6 million New Yorkers moved to Florida, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, North Carolina and other states during the latter
1990s
ALBANYBusiness leaders can improve New York's communities and their
economic prospects by becoming directly involved in efforts to improve schools,
especially as school board members, a business leader and long-time school-reform
activist has argued in a new handbook.

Business Council has launched a new electronic advocacy campaign
to convince Congress to renew a law that supports vocational
and technical career training for students and adults.
The
Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of
1998 provides funding for secondary and post-secondary career
and technical education programs in high schools, colleges,
and vocational schools such as BOCES
