Peter M. Iwanowicz is the Executive Director of Environmental Advocates of New York a position he has held since late 2013.

Before taking the helm at Environmental Advocates he was an Assistant Vice President with the American Lung Association between 2011 and 2013 where he worked out of Washington, DC and directed the Healthy Air Campaign, a nationwide effort to defend the Clean Air Act.

Between 2007 and the end of 2010, Peter was an appointee in the Spitzer and Paterson administrations serving in several positions, including: Acting Commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; Deputy Secretary for the Environment in the Governor’s Office; and, the very first Director of the New York State Office of Climate Change which was created by Governor Spitzer in 2007.   

Before joining state government, Peter served as Vice President for the American Lung Association of New York State (1998-2007), where he directed the association’s advocacy efforts and environmental programs. 

He lives in the Albany, New York area with his wife and two children.
