Paul D. Tonko

Congressman Paul D. Tonko is a seven-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York’s 20th Congressional District in the Capital Region. Tonko is a member of the Energy & Commerce Committee and has chaired its Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee since 2013. He is also a member of the Natural Resources and Science, Space & Technology Committees, a co-chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), and a longtime honorary advisor of the nonprofit Alliance to Save Energy. Prior to serving in Congress, Tonko was President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). He served in the New York State Assembly from 1983-2007 and chaired its Energy Committee for 15 years, and he previously chaired the Montgomery County (NY) Board of Supervisors. Tonko is a graduate of Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, and is a former engineer for the New York State Public Service Commission. He is a lifelong resident of Amsterdam, NY.
