The Business Council of New York State Announces Winner of Third Annual National Civics Bee New York State Finals

ALBANY – The Business Council of New York State proudly announces Anika Das of Eagle Hill Middle School, representing the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce, as the third annual National Civics Bee New York State Competition winner. Later this summer, Anika advances to the national finals in Washington, D.C.

Runners up in the competition included Inaya Adeel, who represented the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, and Theodore Penfold, who also represented the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.

The innovative competition, modeled on traditional spelling and geography bees, took place at the Albany Capital Center on July 1st. Nine students from across three regions of New York State who had won local competitions competed in the finals.

"Congratulations to our winner and all of the participants who made their families and local chambers proud today," said Heather Mulligan, President and CEO of The Business Council of New York State. "As a business organization, we believe it's important to inspire the next generation of leaders to actively participate in civic life and, from an early age, contribute positively to their communities. We hope this event has encouraged students to become informed, engaged citizens who are passionate about making a difference."
