Dr. Nicole Bouchez

Nicole Bouchez is the Principal Economist, Market Design, for the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), which operates New York’s high-voltage transmission system, manages the state’s competitive wholesale electricity markets, and conducts comprehensive power system planning. She has worked extensively on evaluating and designing wholesale energy and capacity markets in New York. Dr. Bouchez’s recent work has focused on the reliability and market implications of a grid in transition and on integrating wholesale markets with public policy. She has been the Principal Economist for Market Design at the NYISO since 2011. Prior to that she was the NYISO Internal Market Monitor and Manager of Market Monitoring and Performance. Before to joining the NYISO, she was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London. She holds Doctorate and Masters of Arts degrees in International Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and International Relations from the University of California, Davis.
