John O’Leary is Deputy Secretary for Energy in the Office of Governor Kathy Hochul. John oversees New York State’s portfolio of energy agencies, including the Department of Public Service, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, NY Green Bank, the New York Power Authority, the Canal Corporation, and the Long Island Power Authority. John is responsible for implementing Governor Hochul’s comprehensive energy and climate leadership strategy.

Prior to joining Governor Hochul’s office, John led strategy and market development for AlphaStruxure, a joint venture of The Carlyle Group and Schneider Electric focused on advanced on-site clean energy infrastructure projects.

Prior to that, John served as Senior Policy Advisor for Energy & Finance for New York State, where he worked on electric utility regulatory reform and policy innovations to accelerate clean energy deployment with increased private investment.
