The Business Council will sponsor a series of seminars designed to give business owners information about their real-property tax assessments and how they can be most effectively challenged.

The Council has scheduled its “Take Control of Your Property Tax Assessments” seminar for Tuesday, April 5, at the Holiday Inn Syracuse in Liverpool, and Wednesday April 6, at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs. Local and regional chambers of commerce will co-sponsor each seminar.

The seminar is designed to give participants a clear understanding of how property tax assessments are determined, including the role of tax rates and equalization rates.

The seminar should also help participants make informed cost-benefit decisions about trying to reduce their taxes, read their tax bills, and review records on the business’s property in municipal assessment offices.

The agenda will include specific information on understanding and avoiding the problems and pitfalls of the present system.

The agenda will include real case studies of successful and unsuccessful efforts of taxpayers to reduce their real property taxes.

The seminar is intended for businesses’ owners, executives, corporate tax managers, accounting managers, facilities managers, and property-tax attorneys.

Seminars leaders will come from Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, a full-service law firm with four regional offices throughout New York State.
