Statement in Response to the 2026 State of the State Address
“We appreciate the Governor’s attempt to improve affordability and competitiveness with such proposals as expanding access to childcare without raising taxes, reducing unnecessary environmental regulations that delay housing projects, and addressing the high insurance costs driven by frivolous lawsuits. These steps acknowledge the real cost pressures facing employers and consumers across the state. However, we urge caution regarding additional mandates on utility companies without also acknowledging the high burden of fees and regulatory requirements already imposed on providers. Addressing affordability and providing relief to consumers must go beyond a headline and come with an acknowledgment of the underlying cost drivers.”
