The Business Council Urges Congress to Reduce Work Eligibility Period for Asylum Seekers

Reducing 180 Day Wait Period Helps Entire Economy

ALBANY – The Business Council, late last week, sent a letter to the entire New York State Congressional Delegation urging them to support legislation to reduce the number of days asylum seekers must wait to become eligible to work. By reducing the waiting period, we lessen the financial burden placed on the municipalities hosting individuals while simultaneously providing the opportunity for immigrants to find gainful employment.
