The Business Council of New York State applauds the passage and signing of the SHIELD ACT
Business Council staff helped advocate for business and consumer protections

Albany, NY – The Business Council of New York State Inc., is pleased to see the signing of the SHIELD Act, a piece of a legislation we as a business association worked diligently to advocate for. The Business Council applauds the efforts of the State legislature and the Attorney General for their work to make the meaningful legislation a reality.

For the past two years the Business Council has proactively engaged with state officials to ensure a universal and manageable approach to cyber breach, consumer notification and data protection.

“NY Attorney General James and the legislative sponsor have listened to New York businesses and developed state law which recognizes federal and state cyber security standards and breach notification procedures, and protects consumers,” said John Evers, Director of Government Affairs for The Business Council of New York State. “This commonsense approach to ever increasing cyber threats in today’s technology-driven world shows that business and government can, and should, work together to find solutions that protect both businesses and the consumer.”
