The Business Council Announces Winner of Inaugural Minority & Women’s Business Award
ALBANY – The Business Council of New York State announced Friday, Backyard Barbeque was named the winner of the inaugural Minority & Women’s Business Award. Backyard Barbeque, located in Freeport Long Island, was nominated by Assemblymember Taylor Darling (18th District).
“We are grateful to be able to give back to our community and grateful to Assemblymember Darling for acknowledging and nominating us,” said Kenneth Ware, Co-Owner, Backyard Barbeque. “If you want to try the best barbeque on Long Island come over and see us.”
“I am over the moon that our incredible business, Backyard Barbecue Inc, won the inaugural Minority and Women’s Business Award from the Business Council of New York State,” said Assemblymember Taylor Darling (18th District). “Freeport business and their owners are a fixture throughout the 18th Assembly District known affectionately as our home. Owners, Kenneth Ware and Michael Toney, support our community in a myriad of ways including as leaders, investors, and action figures.“
The Minority & Women’s Business Award was created based on The Business Council’s belief in the continued promotion of economic growth and prosperity for all and that opportunity should be given to all employers, regardless of race or creed. The award honors minority, women, and LGBTQ businesses by recognizing their history and success. This year 35 businesses from across the state were nominated by their legislator.
