The Business Council and Pro-Business Advocacy Groups Across New York State Urge Congress to Oppose Funding Cuts for National Institutes of Health Grants
Funding Caps Could Lead to Loss of Research Opportunities & Economic Growth

ALBANY – The Business Council of New York State, Inc., along with 15 pro-business and economic advocacy groups from all corners of New York State, on Thursday, sent a letter to the New York State Congressional Delegation outlining strong opposition and urging action against proposed funding cuts to National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants.

The funding cuts would negatively impact health innovative research institutions across the country, many of which call New York State home. New York research institutions receive $3.5 billion in NIH funding annually—the second largest recipient of such funds—to support more than 250 entities that use the funding to build a qualified workforce to drive critical industry innovative research.

A NIH funding cap could lead to the loss of as much as $850 million in New York State funding, which would slow the state’s economic growth, medical innovation research, and ability to support a healthy and skilled workforce.

“Your leadership is crucial to safeguarding the institutions that power our state’s economy and workforce. We urge you to take immediate action in opposing the implementation of this harmful policy,” the letter to state congressional members reads.
