Kevin Russell is an Associate Partner based in the Carolinas office and Senior Fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the business and economics think tank of McKinsey & Company. He leads MGI research and client support on several topics related to company dynamics, technology, and growth. His recent work on the Next Big Arenas of Competition looks at growth and sector dynamism for 18 of the fastest growing industries from AI and robotics to space and industrial biotech. He also leads MGI research on how companies drive innovation to solve societal challenges and help achieve sustainable and inclusive growth. He has applied his research on companies and productivity growth to national and regional economies, including the B20, Indonesia, and Latin America.
Prior to MGI he served McKinsey clients in Southeast Asia as a consultant, primarily in banking and utilities. Before joining McKinsey in 2015, he received a PhD in political science from Yale University, a master’s in public policy from Johns Hopkins University, and a master’s in physics from Sydney University; and he worked for five years in the public sector.
