ALBANY – The Business Council of New York State Inc., on Monday, delivered a letter to the New York State Education Department confirming its support for the graduation measures recommended by the New York Equity Coalition. The recommendations were delivered to a Blue-Ribbon Commission examining the matter.
The letter, which can be found here, states New York needs a bold and holistic approach to education that ensures all graduates can read, write, and have the skills necessary to both meet rigorous graduation requirements and succeed in college or careers.
“The Business Council of New York State has long recognized the importance of preparing students with essential skills that go above and beyond the industry standards, said Crystal Griffith, Director of Work Force Development. “Preparing our students from an early age sets the table for success by creating paths toward higher education learning, hands on skilled training, and successful employment as young adults.”
The Business Council is a standing member of the New York Equity Coalition, a group of organizations committed to fighting for higher achievement and greater opportunities for all students. The New York Equity Coalition campaign for graduation measures can be found here.
