Government Affairs Council to meet Sept. 24 during Council's Annual Meeting

Consumer-driven health plans and legislative vote tracking will be among the topics addressed during The Business Council’s Government Affairs Council (GAC) meeting Friday, September 24.


The GAC meeting will take place at The Sagamore in Bolton Landing as part of The Council's Annual Meeting.


The agenda includes:

  • Accountability and Performance Review of State Legislators- Insight from Experience. This presentation by Ed McLaughlin, president of the Maine Economic Research Institute (MERI) a nonpartisan, independent organization, will provide an overview of the method used by MERI to track votes by Maine legislators on key economic topics.

  • Consumer-driven Health care- Where is it going? Brad Morse, vice-president of Aetna, an industry leader in consumer-driven health plans, will present an overview of where consumer-driven plans are now, and what they are expected to become.
    The meeting will also provide a period of open discussion for participants.


Background on The Council's Annual Meeting: The Business Council's Annual Meeting each year attracts more than 500 of the top business and government leaders in the state for discussions on issues of importance to the state's business community. The meeting is open to all Business Council members.


At the meeting, The Business Council's board of directors sets The Council's legislative priorities for the coming year, and a wide range of Council members discuss those issues, expected legislative actions on them, and strategies for advocating legislative actions that will strengthen New York's business climate.
