The Business Council's Government Affairs Council (GAC) will finalize The Council's 1999 legislative agenda at its first meeting of 1999.

The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, in meeting rooms 2 and 3 of the Empire State Plaza.

Robert King, director of the state Division of the Budget, will be a guest speaker at the GAC meeting. He will discuss the likely budget process that will unfold in this, his first time through the entire process as budget director.

The Business Council's top legislative priorities were set by its Board of Directors last September. These priorities are tax cuts, tort reform, health-care cost containment, and workforce development.

Since then, Business Council members and staff have been hammering out the details of the agenda.

In November, the full GAC met for two days in Saratoga Springs to discuss strategies and tactics for pursuing the legislative agenda.

The final agenda will spell out in detail the legislative, regulatory and administrative issues to be worked on during the coming year by the Business Council's committees and councils during the coming year.

This year, we made a special effort to get ideas from as many members as possible in developing our legislative agenda. We're grateful that so many of them made such thoughtful contributions.
