ALBANY—A diverse group of organizations and individuals opposed to a proposed constitutional amendment to radically overhaul New York's budget process will outline different arguments against it at a news conference at 10 a.m. Monday, October 17, in the LCA press room in the Legislative Office Building in Albany.

Many of the individuals and organizations that will be represented at the event are members of Stop the Amendment, a coalition of groups and individuals with many different perspectives united in opposition to the idea. Those scheduled to speak at the event include:

  • Gerald Benjamin, a distinguished professor and dean of liberal arts and sciences at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
  • Jo Brill, director of state studies for the Citizens Budget Commission.
  • Frank Mauro, executive director of the Fiscal Policy Institute. Mauro is not a member of Stop the Amendment, but he will make arguments against the proposal.
  • Edmund J. McMahon Jr.
  • Ed Reinfurt, vice president of The Business Council of New York State.
