ALBANY—Daniel Holt, co-publisher of Brooklyn-based Courier Life Publications, has been named Small Business Advocate of the Year. The Business Council’s president and CEO, Daniel B. Walsh, presented the award at The Business Council’s annual Small Business Day March 22 in Albany.

The Small Business Advocate of the Year Award is a statewide award given by The Business Council of New York State and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) to someone who has shown extraordinary commitment to advocacy on behalf of the small business community.

Candidates for the award are nominated by The Business Council and/or the NFIB and their members.

“Dan Holt has long been a supporter of Small Business Day and the Business Council,” said Walsh. “More than that, he is an integral part of what has united the business community of Brooklyn.”

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Holt moved to New York nearly 30 years ago. Holt has been with Courier-Life Publications for more than 25 years.

As co-publisher, he is responsible for 30 community and ethnic newspapers and magazines which circulate throughout the New York metropolitan area. Holt and his staff produce 300,000 copies of the papers each week.

In addition to his work at Courier-Life, Holt is also serving as the chairman of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. He has also worked with the American Red Cross and Metropolitan Marketing Consultants, and the Brooklyn Boy Scouts of America.

“It’s a pleasure to present this award to Dan Holt because not only has he shown outstanding commitment to the small business community in his area, but to his entire local community as well.” Walsh said.
