Providing and sustaining drug coverage for retired beneficiaries
will be the main topic at a Council-sponsored prescription drug
conference June 14 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany.
The Council is co-sponsoring the half-day conference with the Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). There is no fee to attend.
The agenda includes an overview of the new Medicare prescription
drug plan and its low income subsidy; a discussion of the employer
subsidy; and a discussion of community outreach.
Participants will hear from representatives of CMS, as well as benefits
industry experts from TowersPerrin.
The introduction of the Medicare Modernization Act has resulted
in a significant transformation of the Medicare program impacting
all of our beneficiaries, providers and partners, according to CMS.
Elliott Shaw, the Council's director of government affairs, said
the conference would address the questions arising from the recent
changes, and educate human resource professionals about the new
Employer Subsidy and other plan design options available for retirees
under the Medicare Modernization Act.
The conference will also allow participants an opportunity to network
with other providers and professionals as well as develop long-term
partnerships with public and private employers to enhance services
provided to Medicare beneficiaries.
