ALBANY, NY—"The Business Council made passing meaningful workers’ comp reform its number one priority, and with the inclusion of significant cost-savings in this year’s budget we got the job done. Our efforts brought together more than 200 other associations, chambers of commerce and businesses who amplified the voices of thousands of employers demanding change. We commend the state Senate Majority, particularly leader Flanagan and Senators DeFrancisco, Akshar and Amedore, for making reforming workers’ comp a must-have in their negotiations with the Governor and the Assembly. We also want to thank Assemblymembers McDonald and Woerner for boldly supporting reform. Thanks to these combined efforts, New York's employers will now stand to save hundreds of millions of dollars annually on their workers' compensation costs.
Workers’ comp reform, the authorization of ridesharing beyond New York City, and the commitment to spend $2.5 billion on improving our state’s water infrastructure were all items The Business Council and our members fought hard to see enacted. No document or process is perfect, and there are certainly items we do not support. However, when taken as a whole – this year’s budget shows lawmakers heard our call to get back to business. We look forward to continue working together the rest of this session to pass legislation which will grow our economy and improve the lives of all New Yorkers.”
