The Business Council of New York State Names Steven A. Smith Jr. as Director of Communications

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Business Council of New York State today announced that Steven A. Smith Jr. has joined the Council as director of communications, bringing more than a decade of experience in public and media relations and crisis management to the role.

Smith most recently served as executive director of the Capital District YMCA's Troy Branch, where he oversaw daily operations, financial management, and community programming.

He previously held the position of director of communications for AvPorts at the Albany International Airport, serving as spokesperson and leading media relations, public messaging, and social media engagement.

Earlier in his career, Smith spent more than 15 years with the City of Albany Police Department, including 11 years as public information officer.

Smith earned a Master of Public Administration from Marist College and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Nyack College.

He serves on the board of directors of the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany, was a founder of Capital Region Crime Stoppers, Inc., and in 2020, was the recipient of the International Association of Chiefs of Police 40 Under 40 award.
