The Business Council's Manufacturing Council met this week to work on a new strategic plan, and to address key legislative and regulatory issues for the remainder of the year.
The May 9 planning discussion centered on getting more participation by plant managers and other key executives in focused advocacy efforts.
It also talked about expanding information and training services for Business Council manufacturing members, especially its smaller members.
It was also announced that the Manufacturing Council will be sponsoring the Annual State Conference on Manufacturing. This event was founded several years ago by the former Upstate Roundtable.
The event will take place Nov. 2 at the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Key post-budget legislative areas of concern included steps to control workers' compensation costs, and proposals to refinance and reform the state's "Superfund" law.
The Manufacturing Council also received a briefing on rail issues and transportation infrastructure funding opportunities from John Guinan, Assistant Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation.
"The Business Council is pleased to be assuming responsibility for this important group, and we strongly encourage any interested manufacturers to participate in the activities of this council," said Business Council President Daniel B. Walsh.
