Three Business Council members were honored for their contributions to The Council's environmental advocacy efforts at The Council's 25th annual Industry-Environment Conference Oct. 25 in Saratoga Springs.
Two members received the "Building a Better New York" Award.
Harrison Wertz, a
senior environment, health and safety specialist with Schenectady International,
Inc., at its Schenectady plant.
"Harry has been a major contributor
to the Environment Committee for more than a decade," said Ken Pokalsky,
director of environmental and regulatory affairs for The Council. "He is
someone we turn to for help on a wide range of management and regulatory
issues."
John L. Greenthal,
a partner in the Albany office of Nixon Peabody LLC, and longstanding chair
of the Business Council's Environmental Law Subcommittee.
"John has led our advocacy
efforts on many environmental compliance issues, ranging from the state's
civil penalty policies to efforts to promote the use of environmental management
systems by business " Pokalsky said.
The Council presents the "Building a Better New York" awards annually to recognize members of The Council's Environment Committee who make outstanding contributions to environment-related advocacy. The award consists of an engraved plaque mounted on an industrial brick.
In addition, Jim Shaw, environmental manager at Alcoa's Massena plant and outgoing chair of the Environment Committee, received a plaque in recognition of his contributions to the work of the committee.
