Director, Division of Environmental Remediation
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation 

Andrew O. Guglielmi is the Director of the Division of Environmental Remediation (DER) of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). DER currently consists of a team of approximately 300 staff, including environmental professionals with degrees in engineering, geology, and environmental protection and administration. The Division is responsible for the cleanup of petroleum and hazardous waste releases throughout New York State, and remedial programs including:

 

  • Brownfield cleanup
  • Inactive hazardous waste disposal site remediation (State Superfund)
  • Petroleum bulk storage and major oil storage programs
  • Hazardous substance bulk storage program
  • Spills program
  • PFAS sampling and drinking water response

 

Mr. Guglielmi previously served as a DEC attorney at several major legacy contamination sites throughout the state, including the Hudson River PCBs matter, the Northrup Grumman Groundwater Plume, and the NRD restoration program at Onondaga Lake. Mr. Guglielmi received his JD, magna cum laude, with a concentration in environmental law, from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 2006 and has been with the DEC since December of 2007.
