Dr. Alexander Smith is the Assistant Director for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (NYSDEC) Division of Water, where he leads efforts to protect and improve New York’s water resources. He is also a member of the state’s Drinking Water Quality Council. His work centers on developing strategies to reduce water pollution, and ensuring clean, safe water for communities across the state. With expertise in water quality monitoring and research, watershed management, and water resource policy, Dr. Smith collaborates with various local, state, and federal partners to implement programs that promote sustainable water practices and mitigate emerging threats to water quality. With almost 25 years of experience within the Division of Water, his commitment to safeguarding New York’s water reflects his dedication to environmental health and public safety.
