ALBANY – Unshattered, a non-profit handbag manufacturer who employs women in addiction recovery, has been named the 2023 recipient of the Father Peter Young Award by The Business Council of New York State, Inc.

Unshattered has provided women in recovery with a job and an opportunity for seven years. With more than twenty employees producing personalized handbags and accessories, the company prides itself on creating opportunities for those with few options. The handbags are designed and encrypted with hidden personal messages from the women who design them.

Father Peter Young was a Capital Region priest who helped transform the lives of individuals who had substance abuse addictions. Father Young started nonprofit organizations in the Capital Region and their successes grew to more than 117 sites through New York State.

“Unshattered is honored to be a recipient of the Fr. Peter Young Award, recognizing our work of ending the addiction relapse cycle. We believe that business can be used for positive social and economic impact. We're proud to make a difference in the state of NY through our social, environmental, and economic impacts by crafting premium products out of upcycled materials and helping women thrive on the other side of addiction,” said Kelly Lyndgaard, Founder and CEO, Unshattered.

“Unshattered is the epitome of what Father Peter Young stood for, giving those in recovery a second chance at life. The Business Council is honored to name Unshattered as this year’s award recipient, and we value our ongoing relationship with Kelly and her staff,” said Heather Mulligan, President & CEO, The Business Council of New York State Inc.
