NYS Unemployment Insurance Issues

A Joint Meeting of The Business Council's Government Affairs, HR/Labor and Unemployment Insurance Committees

Friday, April 23
1:30 - 3:00 PM

The COVID pandemic has imposed unprecedented challenges on the state’s unemployment systems. Combined federal and state UI benefits paid in 2020 were as high as $71 billion, with as much as $60  billion in FY 2022, and New York’s UI account has already taken more than $10 billion in federal advances. How are these costs impacting state employer’s UI taxes this year and going forward, and what can be done to lessen the impact? These and other UI program issues will be discussed with NYS Department of Labor representatives, Business Council staff and industry issue experts at our upcoming Zoom meeting on NYS Unemployment Insurance issues, to be held Friday, April 23 from 1:30 to 3:00 PM.
