Joint ITT/Procurement Committee Meeting

Wednesday, October 30th
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The Fort Orange Club
110 Washington Avenue
Albany, NY 12210

Please join us for a joint meeting of Contract Procurement Committee & Information Technology, Telecom, & E-commerce Committee on October 30th from 9-11am at the Fort Orange Club. Discussion will largely focus on IT procurement in aftermath of a presentation by Sean Carroll, NYS Chief Procurement Officer, who spoke at The Business Council’s Annual Meeting on the issue. Mr. Carroll invited The Business Council and its membership to give feedback on the issue and asked for constructive suggestions on how to better the process. The committees will also discuss the NY Privacy Act [S.5642 (Thomas)/A.8526 (Rosenthal)], a bill largely modeled on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). This bill is problematic for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is a new data fiduciary role assigned to companies who handle consumer data and a private right of action included in the bill. Now that the CCPA has been passed in California, undergone various public forums and will officially take effect January 1, 2020, the committee will discuss the parts of that law that are also included in the NY Privacy Act. An ad hoc working group to compile issues and concerns with the NY Privacy Act has been formed and will be active in opposing the NY Privacy Act.
