What is the future of transportation? New York State is experiencing rapid change in the areas of transportation and transit. The State is also grappling with funding for various transportation infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, rail, airports, and ports. With so many advances in technology combined with ever-changing transportation modes, what does the future of transportation look like in New York State?

New York State recently completed the new Tappan Zee/Mario Cuomo Bridge, new passenger rail stations in many upstate cities, and millions of dollars in upgrades at airports. New York State has authorized “ride share”, is exploring high – or higher speed – rail, and looking to allow e-bikes and e-scooters.

However, the State is also implementing “congestion pricing” in New York City to fund the MTA and commencing the massive New York-New Jersey “Gateway” project. How does New York State balance all its Department of Transportation capital projects with MTA needs? This is especially relevant as New York State entertains new public policy initiatives like encouraging transit authorities to switch to electric buses; adding e-scooters and e-bikes to its roads; and grappling with how “gig economy” workers fair in the new world of transit high tech. As technology advances where do driverless cars, electric cars, drones, high speed rail and other innovations fit into the picture?

Join The Business Council of New York State as it explores these issues through a series of panels and discussions on “the Future of Transportation” in New York State. Panels and topics will be announced shortly. It will be a “don’t miss event” dedicated to bringing you the updates on where transportation public policy of New York State is headed and what the major players in these fields are thinking.
