About the Conference

This two-day event brings together close to 300 experts from both the private and public sectors to interact and share the latest information relevant to environmental issues in New York State.

Kicking off the event with a Welcome Reception, this conference provides pertinent information on the ever changing state environmental programs and policies. Held for over 35 years, the Industry-Environment Conference is the foremost conference of its kind in New York State. Environmental Committee Chairman’s Award

The Environmental Committee Chairman’s Award is intended to recognize a specific project developed by an individual, organization, or business which demonstrated a notable contribution in conserving resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, or developing innovate approaches to environmental challenges.

Eligibility
Competition is open to all Business Council members including: businesses, non-profit organizations, professional and trade associations.   The award will be presented for achievements culminated in 2013.   Three finalists will be nominated by the Selection Committee based upon the received applications. 

Deadline
All nominations must be received by Tuesday, October 1, 2013, and submitted to Darren Suarez at Darren.suarez@bcnys.org or Sara McDonnell at sara.mcdonnell@bcnys.org, or online.

Example Award Projects

  • Climate Change
    Innovative and forward thinking projects / programs that 1) reduce/mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapt to the adverse effects of climate change on public health and our vast natural resources; and 2) provide economic and business-related benefits
  • Ecosystem And Watershed Stewardship
    Innovative and sustainable approaches to land, water and resource management that restore or protect natural conditions, functions and processes, and provide economic, social and environmental benefits including productivity and sustainability of forests, farms or other natural resource lands, or conservation of open spaces.
  • Environmental and Economic Partnerships
    Efforts that foster unique, cooperative and collaborative approaches between the private, public, and/or non-profit sectors to achieve demonstrable results in both environmental and economic improvement.
  • Environmental Justice
    Exemplary grass-roots efforts that foster unique, innovative, and forward-thinking cooperative and collaborative approaches between the non-profit and public (and/or private) sectors to achieve both environmental and economic improvement in geographic areas adversely affected by environmental pollution and hazards.
  • Sustainable Practices or Facilities
    Pioneering efforts to integrate environmental values and conservation of natural resources into comprehensive, long-term decision making and management of businesses and facilities.
  • Technological and Market Innovation
    Innovation in product or process design, manufacturing or product marketing to cost-effectively improve environmental and public health, including products or processes that provide deep energy efficiency, new renewable and clean distributed energy generation, and innovative energy storage.
  • Waste Reduction 
    Achievements in conserving and protecting natural resources and reducing costs by incorporating efforts such as waste prevention, reuse, recycling, composting, environmentally-preferable purchasing, and product design and stewardship.

Selection / Criteria
The Selection Committee will evaluate applications for strength in the following specific areas: Results, Transferability/Scalability, Environmental Impact, Resource Conservation Impact, Economic Progress, and Innovation/Uniqueness.  Evaluations will take into consideration differences in size, region, and scope of projects, as needed.

The deliberative process of the Selection Committee is confidential and all decisions are final.
The nominated finalists will be invited to appear at the 2013 Annual Industry-Environment Conference on October 17th.  During workshop #3 at the conference, nominees will explain their project, and will provide the audience with an opportunity to ask questions and learn more.  At the completion of the workshop a winner of the award will be chosen from the nominated finalists.  The Award presentation will be made at the luncheon on Thursday, October 17.
