Employers must focus on creating strategies to handle the issues blossoming from the ever increasing use of technology by employees and how it impacts the workplace. Find out how to:

  • Use internet information in the hiring / discipline practices
  • Manage employee use of IMs, blogs and social networking

The Worst Part of the Job for HR Professionals – The Five Most Difficult Conversations to Have With Your Employees

The hard truth is that all organizations must deal with some embarrassing and very human concerns at work. We will tackle issues such as:

  • The employee suspected of alcohol or drug use
  • And other difficult scenarios

The session will offer legal and coaching tips for finding your way through these all too common issues.

About the Speakers

All of our presenters represent years of experience in employment law, wage and hour, discrimination, direct threat and reasonable accommodation concerns, workplace violence and focus on intricacies of hiring, evaluating, disciplining and terminating staff while minimizing litigation risk.

Michael L. AbitabiloMichael L. Abitabilo - Michael L. Abitabilo Bio

An associate in the White Plains office, Michael focuses his practice on employment litigation, as well as public and private sector labor law. He is a member of both the New York State and Westchester County Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice before the New York State Courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of New York. He received a B.A. from Marist College and later earned his Juris Doctor degree at Hofstra University School of Law.

Richard D. LandauRichard D. Landau - Richard D. Landau Bio

Is a Partner in the White Plains, New York office, is also a member of the firms Disability, Leave and Health Management Practice Group. Rich was selected as one of the Top 100 Labor Attorneys in the United States in 2006, by the Labor Relations Institute, an organization which selected Mr. Landau for this honor from among close to 9,000 attorneys practicing over the last ten years. He has negotiated hundreds of collective bargaining agreements, including complex contracts covering over 1,500 employees. Mr. Landau graduated from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1986 and received his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1989. He is admitted to practice in both New York and Connecticut state and federal district courts.

Jennifer Papas Jennifer Papas Bio

An associate in the White Plains office joined Jackson Lewis LLP in 2008, and has concentrated her practice in employment counseling and litigation. Her litigation practice includes the defense of employers in state and federal courts and in administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, New York State Division of Human Right and New York City Commission of Human Rights. Ms. Papas received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in economics from John Carroll University in 2005. She earned her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law in 2008.
