2013 Education Conference
Thursday, April 4, 2013
The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center
Albany, New York

The Business Council of New York State, Inc., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for a Competitive Workforce and the National Chamber Foundation are hosting the “Breaking the Monopoly of Mediocrity” tour in Albany, to discuss education reform in local communities and inspire local leaders to become catalysts for change.

Approximately three million jobs in the U.S. remain unfilled. It’s apparent that major reforms are necessary to remedy this skills gap. We must better prepare our workforce for the 21st century economy and nurture “soft skills,” such as critical thinking and communications, among our nation’s youth. After graduating from high school, students are often ill-equipped to become successful in college and the work world.

It’s crucial that local communities — businesses, elected officials, parents and education leaders — all work in partnership to ensure that students have all the skills they need for success beyond high school.

Success on Main Street depends on success in the classroom. Please join us in a dialogue on how businesses can help fix the skills gap and play an integral role in education reform.
