Statement on tipped wage increase from The Business Council of New York State

ALBANY—Raising the tipped workers’ wage minimum by 50 percent is a huge increase that should have, at a minimum, been phased in over time. Affected employers are already required to ensure that their employees receive compensation equivalent to or greater than the minimum wage.┬áThis dramatic increase only hinders their ability to create new jobs as employers are forced to reduce their overall labor costs and may also result in a net reduction in the tips that affected workers earn.
