2010 Human Resource Legislative Conference

ALBANY— The Business Council of New York State, Inc. will sponsor its annual “HR Conference” April 19 - 20 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

The premier legislative and compliance event for Human Resource Professionals in New York State has expanded to include several sessions on New York State labor, human rights and workers’ compensation law. Participants will have an opportunity to hear the latest information from the Labor Department directly from the event’s luncheon keynote speaker, New York State Department of Labor Commissioner, Colleen C. Gardner.

Other Department of Labor (DOL), Human Rights Division and Workers’ Compensation Board experts are scheduled to address workforce development, unemployment insurance, human rights and workers’ compensation issues. Program sessions are designed to provide a “neutral ground” for participants to learn about the agencies programs, standards and procedures. The event also includes legislative visits with State lawmakers.

The event begins Monday evening with a networking reception in the historic War Room of the State Capitol and is followed by morning and afternoon sessions on Tuesday, April 20, beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Meeting Room 1 of the Empire State Plaza.

The briefings will feature John Herrion, Director of Disability Rights for the New York State Division of Human Rights and Bruce G. Herman, Deputy Commissioner Workforce Development at DOL as well as Ed Delehanty, Unemployment Insurance Program Manager from DOL.


Participants will also hear from Neil Gilberg, Advocate for Business and Ed Ruff, Advocate for Injured Workers for the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board on “Navigating New York’s Workers’ Compensation System”. There will also be a federal HR issues briefing from Franklin Goldberger, Albany resident partner from Business Council member Jackson Lewis, LLP.
