Business Council hosts Congressional Exchange on Homeland Security June 18-19

ALBANY— The Business Council’s Homeland Security Council (HSC) will host its annual Congressional Exchange in Washington, D.C. June 18-19 to introduce HSC members to top federal decision-makers.
Scheduled participants at the event include top officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“This event is specifically designed to afford Homeland Security Council members the opportunity to develop working relationships with government officials familiar with homeland security,” said Maggie Moree, director of federal affairs for The Business Council.

The event will begin on Wednesday, June 18, with a special homeland defense briefing from senior U.S. Army officers at the Pentagon. Session topics will include a briefing on the global war on terror, and “reset,” the Army’s effort to take used combat equipment and restore it to fully mission-capable status; and a tour of the National Military Command Center.

Later that evening, U.S. Representative Edolphus Towns (NY-10) will host a welcome reception at the Rayburn Building on Capitol Hill. Members of New York’s congressional delegation and officials from federal agencies have also been invited.

The agenda also includes a breakfast roundtable discussion on homeland security Thursday, June 19, in the Rayburn building. U.S. Representative Peter King (NY-3) will receive an award at the event for his leadership efforts on behalf of homeland security. Other scheduled speakers include:

  • Robert Gearhart, director of public sector solutions for Northrup Grumman Corporation.

  • Al Martinez-Fonts, assistant secretary for the private sector office of the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State.

Advance registration is required. For a complete agenda and registration information, visit the Homeland Security Council’s Web site.
