Governor Spitzer nominates Ed Reinfurt to head NYSTAR
Ed Reinfurt, vice president of The Business Council, has been nominated by Governor Eliot Spitzer to serve as executive director of the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR).
"This is a wonderful and well-deserved opportunity for Ed, and we're very happy for him," said Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of The Business Council. "We're also pleased that, when looking to fill this position, the Governor chose someone from The Business Council. This says something very favorable about Ed, about the strength of The Business Council's staff, and about the commitment to promoting innovation that NYSTAR and The Business Council share."
NYSTAR's principal goal is to encourage and expand high-technology academic research and economic development in New York. Specifically, it supports technology development, innovation and commercialization.
NYSTAR's key goals are to spur economic growth in New York through academic research and development, to increase federal research funding for New York State institutions, to coordinate, organize, and promote New York's many resources in science and technology, and to develop and recommend policies to elected state officials to give New York more economic benefits from its strengths in science and technology.
Reinfurt, who has served as the Council's vice president since 1980, is responsible for advancing the Council's priority government-affairs issues.
He has been a key contributor in the development of the Council's own innovation agenda, while helped to shape the state's. In 2000, Reinfurt was critical in developing Business Council priorities that, in turn, eventually helped prompt creation of the state's Centers of Excellence program.
