The Chamber Alliance of New York State (CANYS), an affiliate of The Business Council, is planning a Washington "lobby day" for New York State's business community on June 9. The event will begin June 8, with an evening reception on Capitol Hill. The next morning, the day’s agenda begins with an 8 a.m. Congressional breakfast, where participants will hear from U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), and U.S. Sen. Hilary Clinton (D-NY). The breakfast also includes policy briefings on small business legislative issues, including transportation funding, Association Health Plans, Small Business Administration funding, the Workforce Investment Act, and federal contracting. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with their own congressional representatives in the afternoon. “New York Day is Washington is a key opportunity for New York business leaders to develop working relationships with their legislators,” said Skye Heritage, director of regional affairs for The Council. “It’s critical that business leaders take this opportunity to advance sound public policies that will improve the business climate and economic growth for New York.” The day will close with a 4 p.m. New York delegation meeting, hosted by U.S. Rep John Sweeney (R-Schoharie). Participants will hear from other New York representatives and key policy-makers on a variety of topics including homeland security.
