Tax department publishes handbook on New York taxes

The state Department of Taxation and Finance has published a Handbook of New York State and Local Taxes, available in hard copy and over the Internet.

The book describes state-level taxes including those on personal income, businesses, sales, and goods such as motor fuel and alcohol. Local taxes imposed statewide--including those on real property, sales, utility bills and property transfers--are also summarized, as are taxes imposed by New York City and Yonkers.

The handbook is available from the department's Office of Tax Policy Analysis, (518) 457-3187, or on the Web through http://www.tax.state.ny.us/Statistics/default.htm. The site also provides links to other policy and statistical reports from the department.
