Council schedules seminar series on OSHA compliance

The Business Council will reprise its popular two-day seminar on workplace safety and health April 24-25 in Amherst and May 1-2 in Saratoga Springs.

These 10-hour seminars are authorized by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a "voluntary compliance certification course."

Each seminar provides participants with information needed to comply with OSHA's general industry standards. Participants will gain valuable insights on how to enhance workplace safety while protecting their companies from costly OSHA penalties.

All participants in the course will receive:

  • A detailed course outline and manual, along with a CD-ROM with detailed technical information on compliance-related issues.

  • An OSHA "10-hour certification card," awarded upon completion of the seminar.

Topics to be covered include: an overview of the OSH Act; OSHA inspections, violations, and penalties; the new ergonomics standard; walking and working surfaces; egress and fire protection; recycling; hazardous materials; and material handling equipment.

Companies with in-depth safety and health programs have been shown to lower company costs and improve productivity by reducing exposure to workers' compensation claims, employee lost time, and equipment damage.

The seminar will be taught by OSHA-authorized instructors from Lovell Safety Management Co., LLC, leaders in workplace safety and workers' comp solutions.

Tuition is $495 per person for Council members, $595 for others. That includes instruction and all materials, two continental breakfasts and two lunches, break refreshments, and a networking reception at the end of the first day.
