Tort reform coalition to lobby May 11 |
|
New Yorkers for Civil Justice Reform, a broad-based coalition of groups advocating comprehensive tort reform, will hold a "lobbying day" in Albany May 11. The Business Council, a coalition member, will take part in the day. The Council sponsors a lobbying day in Albany each May as part of its "Manufacturing Week." Tort reform is a priority to manufacturers, so both lobbying efforts will take place the same day. The Council is supporting the Volker-Morelle Tort Reform Act, which would enact such crucial reforms as repealing joint and several liability, capping non-economic damages in tort cases, and creating a "statute of repose" to limit product liability to 10 years after products leave manufacturers' control.
