The State of Manufacturing
in New York State

Key findings of this look at manufacturing in New York:

After dropping by an average of more than 40,000 jobs a year for the last five years, manufacturing employment in New York State has grown slightly in the past year.

New capital investment in manufacturing in the state jumped 33 percent in 1995-96, compared to the two previous years.

Our manufacturing workers are more skilled, and more productive, than their counterparts in other states.

Our business climate is becoming more competitive. We need to keep that trend going—by cutting taxes, cutting energy costs, improving job training, and more.
