When you join The Business Council, you’re making a decision to support the backbone of New York State – business. Private-sector businesses provide the jobs and bring in the wealth that our workers, families and communities all depend on.

When you join The Business Council, you’re in good company. Our members range from the crown jewels of New York’s economy – IBM and Corning, Citigroup and Verizon, Wegman’s and Con Edison, Kodak and GE – to Fancher Chair Co. of Falconer, and Abigal Press of Brooklyn.

And when you join The Business Council, you’re accepting a challenge. It’s the challenge of working with other employers to improve the climate for all our businesses. It’s the challenge of bringing New York State’s economy back up to its potential, after decades of lagging behind the nation’s growth rate.

This challenge is daunting, but achievable. New York has the entrepreneurial talent, the highly educated workforce, the high-tech labs and research universities, the location advantages and the natural resources that can add up to success in the 21st Century economy.

What’s needed are new governmental policies that will unleash those strengths — rather than tie us down with ever-growing burdens of taxes, mandates and red tape. But government in New York is not going to magically change its ways on its own. The new policies that our economic growth depends upon can only be achieved through collective action by the business community.
